SPECIALTY TRAINING: How To Incorporate Weight Resistance Into Asana
As instructors, we regularly assist our students in poses. Sometimes that is a verbal suggestion. Sometimes it is giving an adjustment: repositioning someone’s head or arms or feet, physically guiding the student’s body with our own hands. But we can also use weight resistance as a hands-on form of feedback. Weight resistance in asana is not the same as adjustments. Weight resistance is a way to wake up muscles, loosen up joints, realign the body in very powerful ways. Sandbags and hand weights are one form, but so is the hands-on pressure of another person that cannot be done when practicing alone.
In this training, Lynn will be showing you how to use weight resistance in the studio. You can apply it individually to help a specific student, or you can use a section of a class and teach your students how to give weight resistance to each other. Weight resistance is another tool you can use as an instructor to relieve tension, improve mobility, increase strength, and otherwise assist your students in their asana practice.
You do not have to be an instructor to benefit from this training. All practitioners of yoga are welcome.
Sunday, September 21, from 12:00 - 6:00 pm
Happier, Healthier Hips
Yoga classes often refer to “open hips” but what does that mean exactly? We’ll look at the ways the pelvis and thigh move in relation to each other and find new ways to stimulate, strengthen, and mobilize the muscles involved. Because having fully functioning hips means more than doing Pigeon or sitting in Lotus. (And yes, we will likely look at Pigeon.)
Saturday, September 27 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Calming The System: A Workshop about Yoga and Perimenopause/Menopause
Are you experiencing hot flashes, joint pain, brain fog, or sleep disruption? These are just some of the issues that accompany aging for any woman. Lynn will speak directly to these and other issues, then guide you through a yoga practice focused on calming the nervous system.
You do not have to be experiencing perimenopause or menopause to join this workshop.
